Apple is working on a new version of the M1 Apple chip called the “M2.” The new chip is called the “M2.” The M2 is thought to be coming out in 2022, and current rumors say that it could be a replacement for the M1 that will be used in the next generation of MacBook Airs.
What We Know
Rumors say that Apple’s WWDC 2022 may not just be about new software. It will be held on June 6. Leaks have suggested that this year’s developers’ conference may see the launch of hardware products, which would make the event more interesting. Time and time again, Bloomberg has said that the new MacBook Air and another Mac product will be out by June; this time is different.
A new report says that the Mac mini upgrade with an M2 chip will come with it. LeaksApplePro, a well-known source, says that Apple will launch the M2-powered MacBook Air and Mac mini at the next WWDC in 2022. If the leak is real, this year’s WWDC will be the first time we see the new M2 chip. Apple is stated to have been running on the M2 chip for a long time.
It will be a successor to the M1 chipset, and it will be called the M2. In the past, Bloomberg said that Apple’s redesigned MacBook Air might be released at the WWDC 2022 conference in June. It’s still not clear if the Mac mini will be released simultaneously. Apple will launch a lot of new Mac products this year, which could be the company’s busiest year for new products.
So far this year, two Mac products have been released by Apple. It wouldn’t surprise me if two more Macs were released at Apple’s software event this week. Apple was testing at least nine new Macs with various versions of the M2 processor before this leak, it was said.
A high-end Macbook Pro, an iMac Pro, and an enhanced Mac mini are being tested with the vanilla version of the M2 chip, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said. A MacBook Air, an entry-level Macbook Pro, and a Mac mini are being tested with the vanilla version of the M2 chip. Many people say that the MacBook Air and the Mac mini with the standard M2 chip are coming this year.
The M2 chip is expected to improve over the first-generation M1 chip in terms of speed and graphics handling. It may be the standard M2, an M2 Pro, an M2 Max, and an M1 Ultra Ultra, only for the Mac Studio desktop. There may also be an M1 Ultra Ultra and an M2 Max. For example, with M2, Apple will make progress in its efforts to move away from Intel chipsets as the company looks to reduce its dependence on Intel.
CPU and GPU Rumors
The M2 is anticipated to have the same 8-core CPU as the M1, but it is built on TSMC’s 4-nanometer process. This means that it will be faster and more efficient than the M1. With 9 and 10-core options, it is expected to have more graphics cores than the original M1 chip had. This is up from 7 and 8-core options in the original M1 chip. In the beta version of Mac OS Monterey 12.3, there were hints of the M2 chip. Apple is working on making the chip. In line with what we recognize about the M2, the chip has eight CPU cores and a 10-core GPU.
M2 Pro and M2 Max
Apple is also working on other high-end and powerful chips. These chips are called M2 Pro and M2 Max. Rumors say that the M2 Max chip has a 12-core CPU, a 38-core GPU, and 64GB of memory. The M2 Pro will be a middle-tier chip between the M2 and M2 Max.
Product Possibilities
If Apple makes an updated Mac mini and a 13-inch MacBook Pro in 2022, the M2 chip is likely to be used in the MacBook Air that comes out then. People say that Apple’s MacBook Air is the most exciting of all of the M2 products that have been rumored. The new machine will have slimmer off-white bezels, a MacBook Pro-style design with a possible notch, and no other wedge-shaped design. M2 Pro and M2 Max will be utilized in the Mac mini and the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros with Touch Bars.
After the M2
Apple is planning to move all of its Mac products to the M-series Apple silicon chips in the future. This means that the chip lineup is likely to keep getting better and better. In the past, Apple has always changed the A-series chips used in iPhones. We think the same thing will take place with Apple silicon chips. Future MacBook Pros and other Apple products could have chips called M2 Pro and M2 Max if the company names them as it did for 2020 and 2021.
