21 Essential Tips and Tricks for Beginners – Minecraft: Dungeons Wiki Guide

Last edition:

From salvaging items for better gear to finding hidden paths for unique items and using important combat techniques, here are 21 essential tips and tricks to get you started in Minecraft Dungeons.

To get you started, here are several quick tips and tricks that we think may be helpful at the beginning of your journey:

  • Explore the area surrounding your camp as you will find hidden lobby chests filled with emeralds.
  • Keep an eye out for brown pots that glow green. By breaking these pots, you will be rewarded with Emeralds.
  • Standard (brown) reward chests don’t always appear automatically, so be sure to thoroughly check every nook and cranny. In some cases, we found that you have to be standing next to them for them to appear.
  • Supply chests will always appear before you encounter a major battle or a heavily populated area. These chests will always provide you with arrows and bread.
  • Did you know that you can transport more than one TNT at a time
  • Not sure if an enemy is ahead of you? If you listen carefully, you might hear them in the distance. Music and sounds can be great signs for impending battles ahead, or even nearby chests.
  • Take advantage of the Blacksmith, as he can sometimes craft unique items and other high-powered equipment.
  • Notice the slightly transparent white circle that appears on the ground beneath mobs and objects that are about to explode. This circle will indicate the explosion radius.
  • If you’re looking to unlock Story Quest items, always defeat every mob you encounter, as many of these weapons and armor sets are dropped by mobs and bosses throughout the maps.
  • Do you need health? Killing friendly mobs like cows, pigs, and sheep will sometimes drop healing items.
  • Haven’t unlocked the next difficulty level but need more challenges? Try playing with the different difficulty levels that come with each map. While you can’t reduce the difficulty below your power level, you may find that increasing the difficulty by one level may satisfy your need for a challenge.

Recover any used items[[editar]

Like your typical looting games, Minecraft Dungeons can often load your inventory with duplicate or low-level weapons, armor, and even artifacts.

Rather than leaving these items to gather dust in your inventory, we highly recommend that you recover any of your unused equipment since recording items in Minecraft Dungeons really serve no purpose.

Before you get a rude surprise, recovery refunds are usually quite low, so don’t expect too much in return. With the extra Emeralds, you can try your luck at the Blacksmith or Wandering Trader, who will create random items for a small fee.

Don’t always follow the waypoint marker[[editar]

Don’t be afraid to explore the map, as players receive great rewards in Minecraft Dungeons for deviating from the main quest path.

It is important to remember that the waypoint marker will only guide you through the most efficient route to the end of the level. While following paths that deviate from the main route will often make you find rare and unique pieces of equipment that are hidden inside chests, mobs or even Piggy Banks.

Please note that these chests do not appear on your map, so be sure to check every nook and cranny the maps have to offer.

Don’t worry, enchantment points are refunded[[editar]

Are you worried that you spent all your enchantment points on a low-level item that is no longer viable?

Well, you’ll be happy to know that all enchantment points are refunded in Salvage, along with some extra Emeralds. With enchantment points refunded and extra Emeralds rewarded, there’s really no point in hoarding old gear for fear of losing all your progress.

Always kill the charmers first[[editar]

As you progress through the game, you will encounter mobs known as Enchanters. These purple robes worn by Illagers can make combat encounters very challenging, as their magical ability allows them to connect with other mobs and make them significantly stronger.

For this reason, always take out the enchanters first, otherwise you will find yourself struggling to survive.

Constantly check your map[[editar]

While the waypoint marker is extremely useful, it is essential that you always check your map. The map constantly changes as you progress through each of the different levels.

Using the map will allow you to find all the possible paths that can be explored and will show exactly where you have been as the area will slowly become shaded as you continue to explore.

Checking the map is also a great way to make sure you’ve opened all the chests you’ve found. It also helps indicate how many chests are left to find, along with secrets.

Trade the blacksmith for unique and rare equipment[[editar]

Now that you have your old equipment back, be sure to put your newly acquired Emeralds to good use. While it’s entirely up to you, we found that spending all of our spare Emeralds on the Blacksmith was your best investment.

Although the wandering merchant offers decent artifacts, their price is quite high and most items have very little salvage value compared to the blacksmith. Additionally, using the Blacksmith also gives you the chance to receive unique armor sets and weapons.

Repetition levels for a better team[[editar]

Minecraft Dungeons oozes playability, which is why team progression is locked behind spawn levels on higher difficulty settings.

Although you’ll unlock different difficulty stages based on how many times you finish the game, the biggest difficulty adjuster can be found in the level information.

When looking for new gear, always be sure to read the level information before starting the mission.

Below the area indicating the recommended power level, you’ll find a short line of text that provides a rough guide to the artifact and artifact power levels you’d expect to find at that difficulty setting.

Don’t be afraid to run away from battles[[editar]

Don’t be embarrassed, some of the battles in Minecraft Dungeons can be quite challenging, especially as the difficulty increases and you start facing upwards of 10 or more enemies at a time.

One of the best combat techniques we encountered during our time in the game was hitting enemies once and running back. While the method works with Melee, range seems to be much more effective in the method. In some cases, the technique also allows you to remain undetected while drawing individual enemies towards you from their group.

While the hit and run technique may not be the most honorable, it definitely helped make those difficult combat encounters much easier.

Try combining your range and melee attacks together[[editar]

Combine your melee and ranged attacks to avoid unnecessary damage and ultimately speed up your kills.

The technique consists of firing shots with the bow while heading towards an enemy. This will allow you to reduce their health so you can deliver the final blow with melee by the time you reach them.

You’ll also find that firing shots at mobs at close range will knock them down slightly and create a small pause in their movement. This will make it a little easier to escape dangerous situations or even provide enough time to land some well-timed melee attacks.

Make sure you always upgrade your weapons[[editar]

The further you progress in the game, the more difficult the levels will be. You’ll notice that each level you complete has a recommended power level for each of the different difficulties.

These power levels are a key part of the game and are strongly tied to the level of armor, weapons and artifacts you are using, as your power level is calculated from the average of all your items.

If you are using older equipment, it is essential that you upgrade to higher level equipment.
