Cyberpunk 2077 could cost CD Projekt executives their jobs
According to a report, some investors would like the resignation of CD Projekt executives following the difficult launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 does not seem to find peace even six months after the exit, with some investors who, according to a Bloomberg report, would like to force the executives of CD Projekt Red. The situation of the very unfortunate game of the Polish team therefore does not seem destined to resolve itself anytime soon, with investors who seem to be in a state of heavy impatience for the serious problems of the title.
In fact, despite the company’s revenue in the fourth quarter of 2020 – the game’s launch period -, the recorded income for the first three months of 2021 they are stagnant significantly lower at expectations.
In fact, according to some estimates, the losses would be around 8.8 million dollars, with serious consequences for the company. The economic situation has become so tense that it would explain why some members would have asked for the resignations of the team leaders.
Adam Kiciński and Marcin Iwiński, the two executives co-founders of CD Projekt Red and therefore of Cyberpunk 2077, could therefore be subject to a rimotion from the head of the company. However, we must specify that the couple – also considering Adam’s brothers – would have a significant equity stake. We are even talking about 34% of the total and therefore it will be difficult for the angrier investors to succeed in forcing them to resign.
We cannot deny that the situation at the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 is clearly got out of hand to the developers, with an extremely negative impact on the older generation console versions and the consequent brutal removal of the game from the PlayStation stores. To date, it is not yet possible to buy the game in digital format on PlayStation 4 and 5. This factor could have contributed significantly to the decreasing amount of sales in the last months of the game.
Despite this, the same managers have repeatedly stated that the situation should improve over time. In part this improvement process has already happened with many corrective patches released in recent times. However, the release of the free graphic improvement for the next generation consoles and also a dlc are still expected, all by 2021. It therefore remains to be seen if CD Project Red will be able to respect the lineup undertaken and reverse the course, before the situation. become even more dramatic for the company.
