ETB promises to have 1,500 rural digital centers enabled in the country before 2023

ETB promises to have 1,500 rural digital centers enabled in the country before 2023

In September 2021, the scandal broke out with the UT Centros Poblados that cost the then ICT minister, Karen Abudinen, her job.

The president of the ETB, Sergio González, spoke at Mañanas BLU about the company’s contract to put into operation the digital centers that Centros Poblados was going to operate, but which failed due to corruption issues. The executive assured that the goal will be to have in December 1,500 Digital Centers enabled.

“We are going to develop the project, connect these digital centers in all areas of the country, in total there are 15 departments, including Usme and Sumapaz in Bogotá. In total there are 6,589 digital centers that we are going to have available. IlCompleted and operating by December 2023 and this year, 2022, in December we will have more than 1,500 centers already enabled, “said González.

The Digital Centers are spaces where the Internet access service is provided, installed mainly in schools and public schools located in rural or remote areas of the country. The new contract, for nearly one billion pesos, was awarded to ETB NET Colombia Conectada, a temporary union made up of ETB (Bogota Telephone Company) and Skynet.

In September last year, the then Minister of Technology renunciated after the corruption scandal unleashed by the irregularities in the contract with Centros Poblados, although she has always maintained that she was the one who denounced the corruption.
