Leak reveals models of human NPCs in the original Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing It is characterized by taking us to towns where all the inhabitants are animals, and we are the only humans. However, the recent massive Nintendo leak seems to reveal that this was not the original idea, and instead of meeting gorillas, cats, dogs and more animals, humans were going to be our neighbors.
TV, a developer that has shared information about Animal Crossing prototypes in the past, has revealed that Nintendo considered using humans instead of animals in Animal Forest, the original Japan-exclusive N64 game. In a series of tweets, TV shared character models known as “Oba” and “Soldier.”
“Soldier” is a human who wears clothing inspired by the soldiers of the Queen’s Guard in England. On the other hand, “Oba” is a character in traditional farmer attire, something that could be a reference to Joan, a turnip seller who has had a regular presence in the series.
And here they are! The recreated models of SOLDIER and OBA! These are early human characters that were from a very early stage in Animal Forest’s development, fully modeled thanks to Wade from the N64brew Discord! pic.twitter.com/y1XLTWGs0N

Although these two humans were never implemented in Animal Forest, their legacy lives on in the series. For example, “Soldier’s” clothing appears in Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS, as well as Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii.
All these massive leaks from Nintendo have given us the opportunity to learn a little more about the process of creating our favorite series, and imagine a reality where Animal Crossing does not exist and instead we have Human Crossing. But this is not all, since early versions of Super Mario World, Star Fox 2, Super Mario 64 and much more.
