The main goal of the campaign demo in July was to showcase the Halo Infinite game for the first time, 343 Industries explained. While that look generally landed the way we wanted, the reality is that the art and visuals weren’t on the level we have for Halo.

Much of the feedback we heard from the community aligned with our own views and the work we were already committed to doing. Still, the feedback was sobering and also prompted us to look for additional opportunities for improvement.

First of all, I can confirm that facial animation on NPCs was not fully implemented in that version, resulting in Craig’s incredibly deadpan / lifeless look.

All characters are modeled in a neutral pose, before shape combinations and animation are applied. Therefore, poor Craig was never intended to be seen in these conditions. So while we’ve come to love our dear old Craig, he’s certainly undergoing a significant makeover.
