Guillermo del Toro commented:
No art form has influenced my life and my work as much as animation and no character has had a deep connection with me like Pinocchio. In our story, Pinocchio is an innocent soul with an indifferent father who gets lost in a world he cannot understand. Our protagonist embarks on an extraordinary journey that will lead him to a deep understanding of his father and the real world. I’ve always wanted to make this film. I am extremely grateful to Netflix and their exceptional team for this one-of-a-kind opportunity, which will allow me to present my own version of this strange puppet to audiences around the world.
Melissa Cobb, Netflix Kids and Family Vice President, added:
Throughout his illustrious career, Guillermo has demonstrated his mastery of inspiring people through his magical worlds filled with unforgettable characters, from the monsters of Pan’s Labyrinth to the aquatic beast of “The Shape of Water”. We are incredibly excited to further deepen our relationship with Guillermo and are confident that his deeply moving personal artistic vision will bring to life a new version of Pinocchio, which will be welcomed by audiences around the world.
