PlayStation 5: ship over 7.8 million consoles

According to data reported by a Sony financial document, the company would have distributed 7.8 million PlayStation 5s worldwide.

According to what emerged from a new financial document from Sony, relating to the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2021, the company has shipped a total of 7.8 million PlayStation 5 all over the world, actually exceeding his own forecasts. According to the data reported by the file, the Japanese giant expected to distribute about 7.6 million consoles, therefore PS5 sales exceeded Sony’s forecasts by 200,000 units.

The document also reports excellent results relating to the now old flagship of the Japanese company, PlayStation 4. According to the data reported, Sony would have distributed 115.9 million PS4s worldwide, highlighting how (even today) the demand for the console is very high.

But that is not all. The company file also mentions how many millions of gaming peripherals have been shipped around the world in the past three months (shortly before the end of the fiscal year, which occurred on March 31, 2021). According to what emerged, Sony would have released about 3.3 million PlayStation 5 in the last period, while the demand for PS4 would have been only one million (with a decrease of about 0.4 million units shipped compared to what happened last fiscal year, relative to the same period).

Excellent results also obtained from online services, given that the PlayStation Plus has seen an increase of about 6 million users, reaching the “modest” figure of 47.6 million subscribers, compared to 41 million last year. Furthermore, as reported by the Japanese giant, 79% of sales come from the purchase of digital games, compared to 68% the previous year.

Waiting to find out when the new generation console of the Japanese giant will be available again for purchase in our market, we remind you that PlayStation 5 made its debut in Italy on November 19, 2020, presenting several new features, such as; support for 8K maximum resolution, i 120 fps with 120 Hz output and a super high speed SSD. Finally, we wanted to remind you that tomorrow (Thursday April 29 at 11pm, Italian time) a new one will be held State of Play from Sony, with Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart as the absolute protagonist. It is not excluded the possibility that during the panel the company may also announce the free games that will be available for all subscribers to the PlayStation Plus in the month of May.
