Reports indicate that we will receive advertising through Facebook Messenger
It has long been rumored that Facebook Messenger would start including ads, and according to a leaked document obtained by TechCrunch, this would start in the second quarter of 2016.
Said document was supposedly sent by Facebook to one of the company’s largest advertisers, and it indicates that at some point in the second quarter of the year, businesses that have a presence on the social network will be able to send advertising messages to users who have previously initiated conversations with those businesses.
According to the information revealed, Facebook is beginning to recommend brands to get ahead of the facts and start engaging their users in conversations so that they can send them advertising once that feature is launched.
On the other hand, Facebook confirmed the possibility of sharing short links to automatically send users to start a conversation. This feature is already available, and to use it you just need to type ‘fb.com/msg’ followed by the username of the page.
According to the previously mentioned document, if businesses respond to 90% of messages in less than 24 hours for a week, the links will be searchable directly on Facebook.
In this regard, a Facebook representative stated the following to TechCrunch:
We do not comment on rumors or speculation. That said, our goal with Messenger is to create a high-quality, engaging experience for 800 million people around the world, and that includes making sure people don’t get unwanted messages of any kind.
Although not necessarily denying the facts, this statement reinforces the idea that users will only receive messages from brands they have previously interacted with through Messenger, so we can be sure that we will not be inundated with spam messages.
There is still no official confirmation from the company, for now, be very careful with the pages with which you start conversations, if you do not want to receive unwanted messages.
