In addition to creating software that impacts millions of people around the world, Microsoft is also known for making great peripherals, such as mice, keyboards, and webcams.
If you recently purchased a Surface Studio 2, you probably received the Surface Keyboard, or if you’re moving from a laptop to a desktop, you likely chose the Microsoft Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID, which also supports Windows Hello.
Although they are great premium entry peripherals with slim profile designs, because they connect wirelessly via Bluetooth, the setup process can be a little confusing.
In this guide, you’ll learn the steps to set up your new Microsoft Modern Keyboard or Microsoft Surface Keyboard for Windows 10.
How to connect a Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard to your device
To connect your new Modern Fingerprint Keyboard (EKZ-00001) or Microsoft Surface Keyboard, follow these steps.
Plug in the USB cable to connect the keyboard to your computer.
Turn on the keyboard using the slider located on the side of the keypad.
click on the “Add a device?” notification that appears in the lower right corner to add the device.
Quick tip: If you did not receive the system notification, turn the keyboard off and on again.
click on Devices.
click on Bluetooth and other devices.
If in the “Mouse, keyboard and pen” section, you will see the BTLE keyboard with fingerprint item with the status of Paired upyou can disconnect the USB cable from the keyboard and computer.
After completing the steps, the peripheral status should change to “Connected” and then you can start using the Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID or the Surface Keyboard.
It is important to note that the two peripherals are practically the same, the only two differences are the brand and the integrated fingerprint reader, which is only available in the “Modern Keyboard” model. Additionally, these instructions may also work for setting up a “Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Desktop” keyboard.
